About

My name is Mike, aka “The Poolman.” That is a family joke, not what I do for a living. We have had a pool in our back yard for 15 years and its maintenance has been my responsibility.  My wife started joking that I was “Paco the Poolboy,” with all the off-color inferences that go along with that name. When my son began helping with the pool work, he became the “Poolboy,” and I was promoted to “The Poolman.”

I live in Savannah, Georgia with my wife, “Mrs. Poolman.” We have two grown children, the forementioned “Poolboy” and “Writer Princess,” who is married to son-in-law “SIL.”

I work for a marine research laboratory here, where I do public relations, other communications, governmental relations, customer service and direct a small foundation.

I like reading bestsellers, history, movies, TV, going to the beach and photography.

We are also die-hard fans of my alma mater, the University of Florida. We have season football tickets and spend many fall Saturdays acting crazy with 92,000 of our closest friends. When we are not in “The Swamp,” we are usually parked in our family room with a smaller group of friends, but acting just as rowdy.

I have a blog for our lab and I have read lots of other folks blogs. I thought I would try to get one going myself. I’ve never done this kind of thing before, so I’m not sure what I will write about. One day may be something I saw or did; another day may be something that I saw or read that got a rise. Politics, religion, food and sports are all fair game. We’ll see how it goes. If you don’t like it, let me know. I’ll refund your subscription fee. Ha!
