Free the whales!

I’ve been off the net for a few weeks. To be honest, I haven’t been posting, nor have I been reading many of my blog friends. More catch up later.

I’m on the road this week, and taking a break between meetings to check my email. I ran across this news on Huffington Post that jolted me out of my blogish lethargy.

Flipping out over his day in court.

PETA is suing Seaworld on behalf of the Orcas, claiming they are victims of slavery. Gotta love it! And they seem to do it with a straight face.

It would then naturally follow that hunters and fishermen are murderers. And I guess I’m a cannibal for the bacon and sausage I had with breakfast this morning. (I’m not saying no one has ever called me a “pig,” but I don’t think that is what they meant.)

And what about our gang of two dogs and two cats? Should I fear a slave revolt in the Poolman family?

If orcas have rights, they must also have the same responsibilities, I suppose. I’d love to see them try to take that Seaworld orca that was involved in the death of his trainer a while back to court on charges of negligent manslaughter. That would be worth watching on Court TV!

Prisoner Sues WJBK for Belittling His Desire for Porn
By Andrew Gauthier on December 5, 2011 4:07 PM

A Detroit prisoner who says he suffers from “chronic masturbation syndrome” is suing WJBK for running a story earlier this year about his quest to get access to pornography while behind bars, according to the Detroit Free Press.

In July, 22-year-old Kyle Richards, who is currently serving time for bank robbery, filed a lawsuit against the Michigan Department of Corrections as well as Gov. Rick Snyder requesting that jails allow prisoners access to personal TVs and porn.  At the time, WJBK apparently aired a story about Richards’ unusual lawsuit–which was eventually dismissed–and now he is suing the Fox O&O for slander (alas, TVSpy has been unable to find video of the story).

Richards is seeking $20 million and an apology from the station.

“The coverage I received was so outrageous, degrading and slanderous that I was humiliated and morbidly offended by the entire story,” he wrote in his lawsuit, according to the Free Press.

While he’s asking for $20 million in damages, Richards notes in his lawsuit that he would accept a smaller settlement from the station.

This is rich!

I ran across this little news tidbit earlier today. It seems a state prisoner in Virginia has filed a lawsuit to force the state to pay for a sex change operation. This comes after he/she tried to perform the surgery him/herself with a pair of scissors.

I guess he/she must be motivated. According to the article…

“By 17, she was robbing banks with the hopes of getting enough money to have a sex change operation. By 18, she was in prison, sentenced to more than 70 years for robbery, drugs, weapons and other charges.”

Seems to me that if he/she had gone out and gotten a job rather than robbing banks and getting thrown into prison, he/she could have paid for the operation him/herself.

Bad choices. Too bad.
